5000 YEARS OF TEXTILES - IMPORTADO

In this survey, twenty-four experts have pooled their knowledge to examine the history of textile art and production around the world from prehistory to the present day. The illustrations include costumes, period interiors, archive photographs and an astonishing variety of fabrics ranging from the simples hand-woven cloths to sumptuous brocades and and breathtaking embroidery. Drawn from major international collections, many of the illustrations are published for the first time. An opening section explains with line drawings and photographs the techniques and terminology of making and decorating textiles of all types including weaving, tapestry, embroidery, lace, dyeing and printing, knitting, netting, felt and bark cloth.
