THE ACQUISITION OF SECOND LANGUAGE SPEECH: STUDIES IN HONOR OF PROFESSOR BARBARA O. BAPTISTA

Organizing a book in honor of someone who played such a central role in our academic lives has been both rewarding and challenging. It was certainly gratifying for us to work together to present Barbara Baptista with a book that would go some way towards reflecting her work in fostering research into Portuguese-English interphonology in Brazil, as well as the important links that she made with researchers in other countries. On the other hand, the responsibility weighed heavily on us, and we will always be wondering if this book can really do justice to the invaluable contribution Barbara has made to the area over the last twenty years.
