THE HEART'S CITADEL

It is 1913, the Kaiser is sabre rattling and men are beginning to query the existing order, but the majority of inhabitants of the Cresswell Manor estate think life will continue as always, ruled by the seasons and the whims of the Cresswell family. Hannah Cresswell is heavily involved with the suffragettes, Lettice is tied to a brute of a husband, Mortimer shocks his snobbish mother by falling in love with an estate worker's daughter, while Felix breaks her heart in pursuit of hedonism. With war looming, society is about to change beyond their wildest dreams - or fears.
